The Flap are the 2nd generation C4 carbon freediving and spearfishing fins. The Flap fins have an overall length slightly longer than the Falcon fins, 780mm compared to 760mm of the Falcon (less than 1 inch). The advantage over the C4 Flap is reported by C4 to be 15% over the Falcon. A diver can therefore expend the same amount of energy for a more efficient return of power and thrust.
The water channels down the face of the blade and the Flap increases propulsion by incrementing the blade surface and the flow of the water over the blade through the tip. In our opinion the Flap may be a more efficient fin but it’s not for everyone. We feel the “Flap” protruding from the front of the blade could be a virtue for an open water diver and a disadvantage for divers prone to hitting the bottom of their fins on the sea floor. The ends of the Falcon are arched inward in comparison and offer more protection to the tip of the carbon blades.
